Janelle, Pilates Instructor

I fell in love with Pilates after taking my first session in 2005. Twenty-seven years as a hairstylist had taken a toll on my body and Pilates offered a solution to the pain and repetitive stress injuries I was struggling with at the time.
In 2008 I had the opportunity to earn my comprehensive 600 hour Pilates certification with renowned Atlanta instructor, Penelope Wyer-Barrow. Although I completed my training, I wasn't ready for a career change, so I continued as a stylist with a few Pilates clients on the side.
In 2014 I became so sick, I nearly died. My illness forced to to reevaluate my life and, as a result, I ended my marriage, left my job as a hairstylist, and moved away from Atlanta. It took me six months to rehabilitate my body, which I did by taking long walks and doing Pilates daily. I went to bed every night teaching Pilates classes in my head. It was clear to me that I needed to commit to a full-time career as a Pilates Instructor.
When I returned to Atlanta I began teaching classes at two local gyms before coming on staff here at Body Connection. I find my work as a Pilates instructor deeply fulfilling. Helping my clients connect with their body's power and potential is my life's purpose. I believe that the mind-body connection cultivated by Pilates can create profound and positive emotional and spiritual changes.
